SUMMARY:International Olive Sustainability Conference
DESCRIPTION:The UC Davis Olive Center is hosting an International Olive Sustainability Conference (IOSC) September 5 – 7\, 2024 (registration and reception September 4). The conference will be held at the UC Davis Conference Center\, with a half-day program in Napa. \nDuring this conference you will learn about research and projects around the topics of sustainable olive farming and olive oil production\, including soil health\, biodiversity\, utilization of mill by-products\, input management and more. With our “farm to fork” approach\, we are also addressing dietary choices that benefit both human and planetary health\, and issues of economic and social sustainability. \nThis is a special opportunity to engage with researchers\, farmers\, and producers from around the world and members of the olive oil trade and culinary community. In addition to the three-day agenda there are post-conference tours to visit California olive farms and research facilities. Alongside the full schedule of presentations\, panel discussions and poster sessions\, we have planned social events\, olive oil tastings and plenty of opportunities to network and have fun! \nRegister at the event website: https://olivesustainabilityconference.sf.ucdavis.edu/

SUMMARY:Savor lecture: AI in Food Innovation
DESCRIPTION:Every food product that you have tasted started with an idea and a recipe. But designing a product that consumers enjoy and bringing it to market can take an unexpectedly long time. Digital AI assistance is emerging as a tool for food product development that could reduce cost and time to bring new foods and flavors to grocery store shelves. Savor will bring together experts in the field to discuss the possibilities and limitations of this new technology as well as social\, cultural\, and ethical implications in AI-driven food innovation. \n \nThe event will be presented in person at the Sensory Theatre\, Robert Mondavi Institute\, UC Davis Campus. \n\nTickets are $25 per person\, $15 for students.\nIncludes a welcome reception with a hosted bar and appetizers.\nLimited seats are available. Parking details are below.\nA pop-up exhibit from the UC Davis Library Archives and Special Collections will be displayed in the lobby.\n\nRegister Now
