Climate change is impacting our world in deleterious ways, from rising ocean levels to more frequent and intense wildfires. Without innovative measures to reduce greenhouse gases in our atmosphere and substantial modifications to how our society operates, additional negative impacts will accelerate.
It’s up to everyone, from all sectors, to make the advancements needed to prevent the climate crisis from becoming even more dire. Grand Challenges acknowledges the severity of climate change, as well as the fact that our changing climate has not impacted everyone equally, with historic inequalities amplifying the harms of climate change.
Grand Challenges is partnered with the Environmental and Climate Justice Hub, which will move the UC Davis community forward by elevating, expanding, and bringing resources to existing environmental and climate justice efforts; facilitating connections with new partners working to address environmental and climate injustice and equity; and centering Indigenous environmental justice issues and partnerships.
We are set to harness UC Davis’ interdisciplinary expertise surrounding climate change to provide paths forward that will mitigate existing impacts, cultivate innovative adaptations, and provide community resilience, while also addressing historic inequalities and building equity into climate solutions.
